Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?
We are located inside the McKinley Tower building, at 337 East 4th Avenue, right in the heart of downtown Anchorage. McKinley Care Assisted Living occupies the first four floors.
What is the difference between an ALF and a nursing home?
Typically, an assisted living facility offers daily support with activities like bathing, dressing, medication management, and meals, along with some medical needs. A nursing home provides 24/7 care and necessary supervision for people with more complex health needs
Does McKinley Care take Medicaid?
Yes, we do. Our facility is licensed to accept those residents who receive assistance through the Medicaid Choice waiver program. You can learn more about this program here: https://health.alaska.gov/en/services/hcbs-waivers/
Why do I have to have an assessment every 90 days?
In order to make sure McKinley Care staff are providing the best support possible for each individual resident, our team conducts an interview and assessment to determine if needs are being met.
What happens if my care needs change?
Our care team will assess your new needs and confer with your doctor, family, or care coordinator, and make adjustments to your care plan. It is our goal to keep residents involved in every aspect of their care.
Who can I talk to about issues at McKinley Care?
It is our desire to solve issues or concerns as soon as they arise, and as such, we recommend contacting the on-site nurse, the resident manager, or the shift team lead for immediate assistance. If a situation is not resolved after a face-to-face conversation with a member of the management team, then residents or family members may opt to fill out a Concern or Complaint Notification form, found here.
I am a vegetarian; can you accommodate my diet?
Our dining services team takes great care to accommodate a variety of dietary needs and preferences, and any dietary restrictions or special diets will be documented in your care plan.
How can I be assured of safety in the facility?
McKinley Care takes resident safety seriously. All resident rooms have locks with keypads and all entrances are locked at night. Additionally, all facility doors have keycard access, and all common areas are equipped with cameras that operate 24 hours a day.
I am interested in moving there/moving a loved one there; what’s the first step?
Prospective residents or their representatives should first fill out a McKinley Care New Resident Intake packet, found here. We also encourage those interested to schedule a tour of the facility, where they can see a room, visit with staff, and ask any questions about living in our community.
